JASON
NOBLE
MUSIC DIRECTOR
Praised for his highly
expressive, innovative, and heart-felt musical interpretations, Mr. Noble
has been cited as "one of the nation’s most promising young music
educators.” In addition to his position with the HWS, he serves on the
faculty of Kean University in Union, New Jersey and supervises New York City
area student-teachers for Columbia University’s Teachers College. He
previously served as Director of Bands at Miami Coral Park High School,
Miami, Florida. Mr. Noble attended New York University (Master of Arts,
Music Education) and University of Miami (Bachelor of Music, Music
Education, magna cum laude) and is currently a doctoral candidate at
Teachers College, Columbia University.
During his tenure at Miami Coral Park High School,
Noble's band
received both national and international acclaim. In 2004, Mr. Noble
commissioned a new significant piece of literature for wind band, “Yosemite
Autumn,” by world-renowned composer Mark Camphouse. Mr. Noble was also
cited as a promising young music educator by School Band and Orchestra
Magazine (2002), and featured in The Miami Herald for his
innovative teaching techniques in 2002. Noble recently premiered a new
composition for wind ensemble, I Surrender, which was premiered by
the NYU Wind Ensemble on March 7, 2006, at the Loewe Theatre in New York.
Noble and the Miami Coral Park High School band released a professionally
recorded CD, “Living a Musical Dream,” with Mark Custom Records in 2003.
His ensembles have performed at Carnegie Hall and have been invited to
perform at the Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia. Noble is in
frequent demand as a conductor, lecturer, and music performance adjudicator
across the United States.
At New York
University, Noble studied composition with world renowned composer Justin Dello Joio, saxophone with internationally acclaimed classical saxophonist
and historian Paul Cohen, and music education with critically acclaimed
contemporary scholar David J. Elliott. Previously, Noble studied conducting
with Gary Green (University of Miami), and Nicholas DeCarbo (University of
Miami). Mr. Noble holds professional membership in the National Band
Association (NBA), College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), The
Mayday Group, New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), Music Educators National Conference (MENC),
American Society of Composers, Arrangers, and Publishers (ASCAP), and the World Association of Symphonic Bands
and Ensembles (WASBE). In addition, Mr. Noble is a certified
music adjudicator for the Central States Judges Association (CSJA).
His favorite quote, one that
has guided his strong passion for pursuing musical excellence is “Music is
not an art for the chicken-hearted. Seek what is right, and do NOT be afraid
to be wrong!” a statement boldly stated by the father of the American Wind
Ensemble, Dr. Frederick Fennell.

MATTHEW J. PATERNO
ASSOCIATE MUSIC
DIRECTOR
Mr. Paterno graduated from
Rutgers University-Mason Gross School of the Arts with a Bachelor of Music
Degree. While there, he studied conducting with Scott Whitener and
euphonium with Harold Janks of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Upon
graduation, he served as the high school band director and fourth grade
instrumental music teacher in the Keansburg public schools.
For the
past 16 years, Mr. Paterno has been the director of instrumental music at
Wayne Hills High School. He has taught at the Mt. Tabor Summer Band School
and is a private instructor, brass clinician and adjudicator throughout the
area. Mr. Paterno is an adjunct faculty member at William Paterson
University, where he teaches low brass methods, applied euphonium and
coaches the Tuba/Euphonium ensemble.
Mr.
Paterno is the musical director of the Metropolitan Brass Band and the
assistant conductor and principal euphonium of the Hanover Wind Symphony.
He has served the North Jersey Area Band Association as President,
Vice-President, stage manager and audition host. He has also served as the
North Jersey Region I band audition chairman and sectional assistant.
Throughout
his career, Mr. Paterno has conducted several honors bands, including the
North Jersey Area Symphonic Band, The New Jersey Region I Jr. High Jazz
Band, The Future Musicians Inc. All State Band and Millennium All State
Band, The Partesi Music Diocesan Band and the William Paterson Summer
Concert Band. He has served as the assistant band director for both the
Morris County College Brass Band and the William Paterson University Concert
Band.
Mr.
Paterno is a recipient of the Eastern Marching Band Association’s “Director
of the year” award and is listed in “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.”
He resides in Parsippany with his wife Christine and children Anthony and
Allison.
PETER T. BOOR
FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR EMERITUS
Peter T. Boor is the Founder and Director
Emeritus of the Hanover Wind Symphony, which he directed for
20 years before his recent retirement. He has recently been interim
Professor of Music at Hofstra University; the Aaron Copland School of Music,
Queens College, CUNY; Rutgers University; and Fairleigh Dickinson
University, Madison Campus. His responsibilities at these institutions have
included conducting University Bands, supervision of student teachers, and
lecturing in Conducting, Music Education and Musical Instrument Repair.
During his 34-year career as a highly
successful Public School Music Educator, Mr. Boor held positions in Flint,
Michigan, Johnson City, New York and Whippany, New Jersey. Musical groups
under his direction have performed in Carnegie Hall (NYC), the Garden State
(PNC) Arts Center, Giant's Stadium, the Waterloo Village Music Festival and
the New York World's Fair. Special performances have been presented for the
New York Brass Conference for Scholarships, the Boston Festival of Bands,
the Music Educators National Conference and the New Jersey Music Educators
Association. World-renowned soloists who have appeared in performance with
Mr. Boor include Eugene Albulescu, Joseph Alessi, Roger Behrend, Lorrie
Berkshire, Tyrone Breuninger, Don Butterfield, Michael Campbell, Paul Cohen,
Mary Ann Craig, Mark Gould, James Markey, Scott Mendoker, James Pugh,
Patrick Sheridan, Donald Singer, Philip Smith, Gary Spaulding, and Robert
Sullivan.
Twice recipient of the prestigious CITATION
OF EXCELLENCE award presented by the National Band Association for
outstanding leadership in the field of Band Conducting, he has appeared as
guest conductor of festivals and performances throughout the Northeast. He
has served as a clinician and consultant to many school music programs; is
an adjudicator with North American Music Festivals, Festivals of Music and
Music in the Parks; and is presently the New York area coordinator for
Festivals of Music. Several articles by Mr. Boor pertinent to music
education have been published in The Brass Player, the Rutgers University
Alumni Newsletter, the New York State School Music News and NJMEA's Tempo
Magazine.
Mr. Boor holds a Bachelor of Science degree
in Music Education from Bucknell University where he studied with Allen W.
Flock, and a Master of Science degree in Music Education from the University
of Illinois where he studied with Mark Hindsley, Haskell Sexton and Charles
Leonhard. He and his wife, Linda, reside in Basking Ridge, NJ. |
